This is not a class where everyone completes the same writing assignment. Each student develops a book based on their own ideas, interests, imagination, writing style, and goals.

Each writer moves through the creative process at a pace that makes sense for their book and individual writing style.
Develop ideas, characters, topics, structure, and the direction of the book.
Draft the story or manuscript while developing voice, detail, and fluency.
Strengthen the writing through teacher feedback, peer input, and thoughtful revision.
Plan visuals, pages, and creative elements that support the student's book.
Polish the finished project and work toward turning the manuscript into a published book.

The goal is to help each student become a stronger writer while still allowing the finished book to sound and feel like them.

How long does it take?
Every Book Has Its Own Timeline
The number of sessions needed depends on the length of the book, the student's creative process, writing pace, style, revision needs, and the type of book they are creating.
Some students may complete a shorter project more quickly, while others may need additional workshop sessions to fully develop and polish a longer or more detailed book. The goal is not to rush the process—it is to help each young author create a book they are proud of.

A Writer Teaching Young Writers
I am a published author of 12 books and guided journals, a former classroom teacher, and a lifelong reader and writer. I began writing from a very young age, and that love of storytelling and books has continued throughout my life.
My background in teaching reading and writing allows me to combine the creative side of authorship with the skills students need to organize ideas, strengthen their writing, revise thoughtfully, and communicate clearly.
In Writers Workshop, I use both my teaching experience and my own publishing experience to guide students through the process while encouraging them to keep their individual voice, imagination, and style.
